Description

This course consists of two components: presentation of new material, and hands-on activities or labs.

The main course book is REAL Science Odyssey, a secular, hands-on science program for homeschoolers. Each lesson consists of reading material, followed by a hands-on activity or lab. The REAL Science Odyssey textbook provides material for one semester of astronomy, and can be combined with the optional stargazing manual for a full year's worth of material.

If you do not wish to use REAL Science Odyssey, you may substitute the optional Khan Academy videos and Story of Science book for a less intensive middle school science course.

We round out this year's science curriculum with a selection of awe-inspiring video presentations: the updated Cosmos series, and a variety of documentaries from Curiosity Stream. Science lends itself especially well to learning via video, and this format provides a break from the reading required in other subjects.
