Life Skills for Middle School
Description
This course covers a wide range of practical skills aimed at helping middle school-aged kids lead happier, more effective lives. Most of the material is covered via fun-to-read books written specifically for preteens. Topics include:
- Developing a proactive mentality
- Overcoming procrastination
- Meditation and mindfulness
- Sex ed
- First Aid and CPR
- Politeness
- Making Friends
- Cooking, cleaning and basic household skills
- Money management
The topics covered in this course are general skills that are useful to just about everyone. We encourage parents to incorporate additional books that are relevant to the specific challenges or interests of your child. The following series are a great place to start:
Laugh & Learn (www.amazon.com/dp/B0886BF9M5?binding=paperback&ref=dbs_dp_rwt_sb_pc_tpbk): This is a series written for late elementary / early middle grades, that teaches mainly interpersonal skills. They're often hilarious and fun to read, with plenty of cartoon-style illustrations. Topics covered include sibling rivalry, anger management, bullying, procrastination and smartphone safety.
The Survival Guide for Kids (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B1PCLTGJ): This series includes several guides for gifted and otherwise neurodiverse kids, as well as things like friendship and money management.
