Many art history books contain too much text, with poor quality reproductions of the works themselves. We chose this book for its large and gorgeous renditions of the major works, along with just the right amount of background detail on each artist and painting technique.
This book is arranged in chronological order and focuses mainly on Western painting, though some coverage is given to Asian works as well. We recommend exploring freely and using it as a companion to the video courses. It is divided into six units, and you can read it more thoroughly at the rate of one unit per month.
